Amby Saunders celebrated a landmark occasion as he gathered friends and family for his 90th birthday party in Culleton's Bar last week.
Flanked by wife Kathleen, the Liam Mellows Park man was joined by the rest of his family and his closest friends for a shindig befitting a Wexford native beloved by many.
Praising staff at Culleton's for their work and for looking after the party guests throughout the evening, Kathleen said a special musical performance was one of the highlights of the night.
'It went very well, we had a great night. He had all his nieces and nephews there and some special friends, mostly just local people who'd know him. The music was brilliant, there was a saxophonist and he played 'Happy Birthday' for Amby, he was very good,' she said.
And when it came to handing out the gifts, those who knew the birthday boy best made sure they got him exactly what he wanted.
'He got lots of lovely presents, lots of vouchers for the bookies, he loves to put on a bet on a horse and he's very lucky usually,' Kathleen confirmed.
Describing the food as 'beautiful', Kathleen then paid a touching tribute to the birthday boy and the man in her life.
'He's a great husband, he's just great in every way,' she said. 'He really enjoyed the party, he's a great man to get to that age.'
