'Only You' was written by Vince Clarke as his tenure with Depeche Mode was coming to an end. When he teamed with Alison Moyet to form Yazoo in 1982, they released the song as their debut single and scored a major hit, reaching No. 2 in the UK. (and 5 in Ireland). Manchester a cappella group The Flying Pickets went one better in December of the following year, claiming the Christmas number one in the UK and Ireland - and their biggest hit - with their version of the song. Prime Minister Maggie Thatcher once declared this her favourite record, much to the amusement of the Flying Pickets whose members had played their part in the bitter miners' strikes of the early to mid seventies. In 2015 the unlikely pairing of Kylie Minogue and comedian James Corden recorded a duet of 'Only You' for the 'Kylie Christmas' album. It was released as a single for Christmas but failed to break the top 100 in the UK.
