Chef Brian could win major prize

A YOUNG County Wexford chef is in the running for top prize in Ireland's most distinguished culinary competition.

Brian O'Flaherty, aged 24, is among the final five in the Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year competition. He comes from Barntown and works as a commis chef at the prestigious Restaurant Forty One on St Stephen's Green in Dublin, winner of the Good Food Ireland 'Restaurant of the Year' award for 2013 and the Georgina Campbell award for 2012.

Euro-Toques Young Chef of the Year 2013 is in association with Fáilte Ireland and is looking to identify young talents who have the potential to represent and define the Irish culinary scene, drawing from our land, traditions and culinary heritage.

The finals will take place on Sunday 24 November and the winner will be revealed at an exclusive event that evening. Judges will include Elena Arzak, Best female Chef in the World in 2012 and joint head chef of three Michelin stared restaurant Arzak alongside her father Juan Mari Arzak.

The Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year 2013 will win a stage at ALMA, the International School of Italian cuisine in Colorno Italy, headed by world renowned chef Gualtiero Marchesi, amongst other exciting opportunities.
