WEXFORD GREENS are going foraging in the wild on Saturday, September 24 next, with the irrepressible and hugely knowledgeable Mary White as she takes them on The Blackstairs Eco Trail Tour.
The plan is to meet at Mary's house The Rectory, Killedmond, near Borris - at 12 noon, for 'a good old-fashioned Rectory Tea' (with scones) before heading off for a 2 hour ramble through ' the lovely lanes, lowlands, bogs and streams of the Blackstairs and River Barrow'.
The former TD will give a running commentary as she goes, speaking about the landscape, the archaeology, the wildlife, the birds, the butterflies, the flora and, of course, the stuff you can go foraging for! All the details are there on Mary's website www.blackstairsecotrails.ie
The walk finishes up back at The Rectory with hot tea, scones, tea-brack and home-made biscuits. You certainly do not have to be superfit to take part as Mary says one can expect nothing more strenuous than 'no hills to slow hills!' The fee is €25 pp. All are welcome but places are limited so get in touch with Senan O'Reilly of Wexford Greens if you are interested. Tel: 086 2427981. Email firstname.lastname@example.org .
