Kilmore Athletics Club re-named its annual 10k fundraising run in memory of the legendary Toddy Moore who died last year.

Toddy was secretary of Kilmore AC for 42 years, served as chairman of Leinster Athletics and was an Honorary Life Vice-President of Athletics Ireland.

He was also secretary of Wexford Athletics and President of both Wexford Atletics and Kilmore AC.

He was an accomplished athlete in his own right, winning multiple county and Leinster titles.

'Kilmore AC lost a club legend with the passing of Toddy, so this year we wanted to rename our annual 10k in his honour', ssaid chairman Paddy Morgan.

The evening race took place over a beautifully scenic route from Kilmore school to Bridgetown, passing by Ballycross Apple Farm, down Shaneen Lane in Ballyharty, by the medieval church in Grange and the grotto at Sarshill and finishing back in Kilmore village for a prize-giving and celebration.

It was supported by main sponsors 'Saltees Fish'. and Ballycross Apple farm as well as host of other local businesses.

A special commemorative t-shirt was printed this year, featuring Toddy's name on the front and the names of all the generous sponsors.

A total of 160 runners and walkers from 18 to 70 years took part, including experienced athletes and enthusiastic beginners.

The Moore family sponsored two trophies for the first man and first woman past the post while winners and runners-up in individual and team categories shared in a Kilmore AC prize fund of €1,900.

This was the 11th year of the 10k run which aims to bring athletics to the local community and raise funds to allow younger club members compete in county, regional and national events.

Over 20 members of the Moore family took part, raising money for Wexford Hospice Homecare.

The main event was preceded by a two-mile fun run for younger people.
