Vera Walsh passes away aged 88

THE SAD death has taken place of Vera Walsh, of Tuskar View.

She was 88 years of age.

The beloved wife of the late Ray and mother to Maria, Catherine (Biddy), Louise and the late Siobhan, she is sadly missed by her loving daughters and their partners and her three grand daughters, Niamh, Anna and Orlaith, great grand daughter Sophie, extended family and friends.

Vera's Requiem Mass took place at the Church of the Assumption, Bride Street, yesterday (Monday) and was followed by burial at Crosstown Cemetery.

Vera came from Dublin to Wexford in the late-1950s where she married Ray Walsh.

A brilliant cook, she worked at different stages of her life at Letts; as a function waitress at the Great Southern Hotel, in Rosslare Harbour and cooked at what is now the Riverbank House Hotel.

Well-respected and popular in the Maudlintown-Faythe area where she lived, Vera was highly-regarded for being open and friendly and in the words of one of Biddy's friends, she was the most unassuming woman he had ever met. Outgoing and friendly she had a good word for everyone.

The family said they wanted to acknowledge the care and kindness shown to Vera by her neighbours Graham and Regina Kelly who had helped her remain in her home as long as she did.

Over the past year she made many visits to Wexford General Hospital, and passed away a week after being diagnosed with cancer.
