Huge sadness at death of Richard

The communities of Crossabeg and Enniscorthy were united in grief yesterday (Monday) as they paid their final respects to Richard Whitney.

34-year-old Richard died unexpectedly at Wexford General Hospital on Thursday shortly after being taken ill.

The son of Bill and Eithne Richard had married his soulmate Karen from Curracloe just 250 days ago. The couple lived at 37 Daphne View, Enniscorthy with children Ian, Kate and Hayley. He had one brother, Stephen.

A former pupil at Wexford Vocational College Richard was a talented woodturner, no doubt picking up the skill from his father Bill who is a woodworker teacher at Colaiste Eamon Ris CBS.

Colaiste Eamon Ris remained closed yesterday as a mark of respect for Richard.

Richard's funeral Mass took place on Monday at St Aidan's Cathedral with burial afterwards in Enniscorthy Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Karen, children Ian, Kate and Hayley, parents Bill and Eithne, brother Stephen, Karen's parents Brian and Maureen, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, relatives and friends.
