Wexford businesses taste international success

Wexford businesses have taken centre stage at this year's prestigious International Great Taste awards.

Considered to be the Oscars of the food industry the awards recognise excellence within the sector and the Wexford businesses that excelled this year are all part of the Dunne's Stores simply better collection.

Zanna Cookhouse, Broadway, Wexford Home Preserves, New Ross, and Featherbed Farm, Oylegate, were all given coveted two-star awards for the products they produce exclusively for the simply better collection.

It's a major achievement for the Wexford businesses to be acknowledged through the awards - which have been ongoing since 1994 - as they are recognised as the benchmark for fine food and drink.

This year almost 13,000 products were 'blind-tasted' by a panel of over 500 industry experts including acclaimed chefs, restaurateurs and food critics.

The awards were then presented to the best tasting entries.

Speaking about their win, Laura Sinnott from Wexford Home Preserves, said the recognition was 'a dream come true' for her and her husband, Tom.

'To be recognised with such prestigious Great Taste Awards is a dream come true,' she said.

However, she also said it wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Simply Better team.

'We are proud to collaborate with people who are as passionate about quality Irish food as we are,' she said.

'The collaboration has opened up so many doors for us, allowing our business to grow and has given us the opportunity to share our quality products with customers across Ireland,' she added.

Killowen Farm, in Enniscorthy, was also recognised and received one-star awards for three of its simply better Irish made yoghurts.

In addition to their three-star awards both Wexford Home Preserves and Featherbed Farm also received one-star accolades for other products in their range much to the delight of both businesses.

Simply Better brand manager, Diarmuid Murphy, expressed satisfaction at being able to work with excellent producers like the Wexford recipients.

'We are thrilled for them to receive such high recognition internationally through these awards,' he said.

'We are so lucky to work with such amazing producers, developing award-winning products that are consistent and internationally recognised for their quality.'

The award winning products from the Wexford businesses are currently available in selected Dunne's Stores nationwide.
