Artisan food producers, Wexford Home Preserves, have won three silver awards in the 2019 World Marmalade Awards.
The small family business based in New Ross received the awards for their Sicilian Lemon Marmalade, their Avé Maria Seville Marmalade and their Dunnes Stores Simply Better Irish Handmade Orange Marmalade.
The team at Wexford Home Preserves, headed up by owners Tom and Laura Sinnott, go to extraordinary lengths to make sure that their marmalades are world class. They travelled to Sicily to find the very best organic lemons, as well as blood oranges and clementines, from Il Biviere Organic Farm and to Seville to source organic seville and naveline oranges from Avé Maria Organic Farm. Working with fresh fruit picked in late December Tom and Laura Sinnott and their team returned to work in January to develop their marmalades, making the marmalades over the following weeks.
Wexford Home Preserves, which employ ten people, has a strong commitment to sustainability as well as quality and deal wherever possible direct with the growers - in a lot of cases, family businesses like themselves.
All of Wexford Home Preserves' marmalades are made by hand using the open pot boiling method in small batches with all pips being removed by hand and used to make natural pectin to help the marmalades to set. The artisan maker of jams, marmalades and savoury preserves was established in 1988 by Tom's aunt Ellen.
Today the company sells 30 per cent of their products in Dunnes Stores supermarkets.
