New Ross native Sinead Fitzmaurice, CEO of TransferMate Global Payments, won the overall Women Mean Business Award for 2019 at a gala celebration of talented women in Dublin.
Women Mean Business held its 13th annual Women Mean Business Conference and Awards in Dublin's Shelbourne Hotel recently. This annual event recognises achievements of outstanding businesswomen and female entrepreneurs from across the island.
Opening the event, founder and Managing Director of Women Mean Business Rosemary Delaney said: 'Today is a day of celebration and contemplation. Our theme "The Power of Opportunity" Is one which all of our finalists have grasped with vigour. They have identified a gap in the market, a right set of circumstances - that golden opportunity that separates doers from dreamers.'
Quoting Peter Drucker's 'The Father of Management Theory', she said: 'The entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity.'
'Here at Women Mean Business we believe that opportunity is linked to a state of mind - the more positive you are, the more opportunities are likely to come your way.
'When reflecting on the nominations received for this year's Women Mean Business awards I was offered an insight into what a success truly looks like. One has to have passion, a strong work ethic, self belief, resilience, bravery, forgiveness, authenticity, empathy, honesty and the ability to be good to oneself!'
She said the awards are much more than 'getting on the shortlist and raising a trophy'.
'Although there will be only one award winner for each of our five award categories, our finalists are all winners, they are all role models and they are all deserving of recognition.'
Five awards were presented, with Sinead Fitzmaurice, CEO of TransferMate taking the overall WMB Businesswoman Award 2019.
The day-long event included an impressive line-up of speakers and panel participants including Global Chief Diversity Officer for Sodexo Margot Slattery; Country Director & Chairman, Diageo Ireland Oliver Loomes; ApisProtect's Fiona Edwards-Murphy; Claire McHugh from the company Axonista and Louella Morton of TestReach.
