National recognition for Tracy's salon

Despite being a relatively small business, operating from a house at Tominearly, Clonroche, Tracy's Hair Salon managed to get a major endorsement recently after finishing runner-up in the Irish Hair & Beauty Awards.

Tracy Sharkey Kehoe was nominated in the Freelance Bridal category initially by her sister-in-law. A Facebook vote followed, which saw brides and customers of Tracy's log on to Facebook in large numbers and vote for her to scoop top prize. A total of ten hairdressers from right across the country were nominated and Tracy narrowly missed out on the top spot, but is delighted with second place.

'I'm over the moon with it,' she said. 'I set up here on my own five years ago. I've been in the business for nearly 20 years and then I had a little girl (Carly) and decided to go out on my own from home. Things have really gone from strength to strength over the past two years in particular and I've been doing a lot of weddings even outside of the county.'

'It was a bit of a shock to do so well, but it's lovely to be recognised being a small little place in Wexford. I'm hoping to expand now and take it on a step further again.'

Tracy wished to thank everyone who voted for her in the competition, along with her supportive husband Micheál and daughter Carly.
