Director Ellen Cloney has announced her cast for the groups 2023 Full Length Circuit Play ‘The Red Iron’ by Jim Nolan. Ellen has been involved in the group for many years and takes over from our long-standing full length director Breda Hayes, many thanks to Breda for all her hard work over the years.
The cast for Red Iron is as follows: Dog – Seán Carthy; Scabs – Diarmuid Buttimer; Zorro – Pat Sinnott; Kel – Colm Doyle; Dettsie – Trish Boyce; Charley – Catherine Murphy.
We wish Ellen and the cast the best of look as they begin their preparations for the 2023 festival circuit. We recently had the pleasure of once again preforming our sketches at the annual Leo Carthy Weekend in Our Lady’s Island. Thanks to the committee for having us and to the wonderful audience for attending.
Our lifeboat was tasked last Saturday after the Coast Guard requested a search for two kayakers who were reported missing. However, the kayak returned safely to Curracloe and the lifeboat was stood down. Coxswain Keith Miller, Mechanic Keith Morris, Navigator Micheál Ferguson and Crew Eoghan Quirke, Dave McCusker, Séamus McDonald and Derek Trenaman.
‘A Window on Local History Rosslare Harbour’ is a wonderful photographic exhibition taking place at the Maritime Heritage Centre between now and August 21.
This is part of the current itinerary of events taking place across the country as part of the National Heritage Week. Opening Times are 17th, August 18 and 19 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and August 20 and 21 2 p.m. 5 p.m.
Rosslare Harbour Community Resource Centre.
The local Resource Centre is open five days a week and are here to help with typing, printing, photocopying, scanning, laminating, shredding and much much more. We are here to support the local community and look forward to welcoming you to the centre. We can give you a few tips and assist you with improving your computer skills. Pop in and say hello.
Rosslare Community Centre
As we head towards the end of the summer holidays, the good weather seems to be holding out. Tennis camps are ongoing for the month – call Emil at 089 4731688 for details. The Nutty Scientists are also with us on Wednesday the 17th for an Outer Space-based workshop. Spaces are limited but a few remain. You can book via their website – nuttyscientists.com.
Our tennis courts, golf course, bowling green, running track and playground are available to families for a very reasonable €100. Individual and couple memberships are available for even less. Call into the centre to collect your application form or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Eyes down. Our final Family Bingo session takes place on Wednesday, August 17, at Coast hotel. Doors open at 7.30 with the first game kicking off at 8 p.m.
Rosslare Tea Room
Our recently opened Tea Room is proving to be a very popular spot. Ideally situated in the Accesss for All Garden, the café offers specialist tea and coffee, cold drinks and mouthwatering cakes and snacks from local suppliers. Eat in or take your goodies to a picnic bench in the garden and watch the world go by. Open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Always a summer bargain to be had at New 2 You Charity Boutique – call in. we’re open from Monday to Saturday from 10.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. We would request that all donations are left at the community centre.
Rosslare Bridge Club meet twice weekly at Coast Hotel – on Mondays from 10.30 to 12.30 and Thursdays from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. The club welcomes players of all levels, and is open to visitors to the area during their stay. Access for All Garden
Summer is definitely with us and nowhere is this more evident than in our garden – this year’s poppy display is a sight for sore eyes. Our volunteers work tirelessly all year round to create this little haven and visitors are very welcome to appreciate their labours.
Active Retirement Association
Our meetings are now suspended for July and August but the coffee mornings continue each week at 10.30 a.m. in Coast Hotel.
Our outing in September is to Spike Island in Cork Harbour on September 8 with a meal in Lawlor’s Hotel in Dungarvan on the return journey.
A good few of our members will travel to Killarney on September 26 for a four night stay BB and evening meal, night entertainment and day tours out, all included for €359 pps.

We are currently working on our 2023 Calendar and would love to see your old photographs, these gems are often hidden in a suitcase, in the attic or under the bed, it’s time to dust them off and have a look back through the lens of time. Taghmon United underage
We will be returning to training on Monday 22nd August.
This year we have the following teams open to boys and girls: U9’s (born 2014/2015); U11’s (born 2012/2013); U12’s (born 2011); U14’s (born 2009/2010); U16’s (born 2007/2008)

Taghmon Camross GAA
The club’s adult hurling team gave a great account of itself in the Intermediate Hurling Final but fell short in Wexford Park against Oulart the Ballagh on Saturday evening. Your support on Saturday was really appreciated, particularly the guard of honour from our U11s and it was great to see the club colours on show in the parish over the last few days. Our U11s also had a great outing to Croke Park last Thursday. Well done to everyone in making it happen.
Our u17s footballers play Ratharogue Cushinstown at home next Monday night at 7pm while the Intermediate Football championship will commence the following Saturday, August 27th, with a game against St Fintans in Oylegate at 4.15. The following weekend the lads play St Mary’s Maudlintown on Friday 2nd September in Patrick’s Park in Enniscorthy.

Friday 26th August Mass in the St. Fintan’s Church Taghmon at 7pm followed by the blessing of the graves in St. Mary’s and the Munnachán.
Sunday 28th Mass in St. Fintan’s Cemetery at 2pm. Please bring your own chair, as there is only a limited amount available, it would be greatly appreciated if the chairs in the graveyard are used by vulnerable persons only.
