To the Howlin family, Grange on the death of Noel. To the Maguire family, Kilmore Quay on the passing of Maureen and to the McGuire family, Tomhaggard on the sad passing of John. May they rest in peace.
Death of Noel Howlin
Members of Kilmore Active Retirement Association were saddened and shocked with the news of the death of Noel Howlin, Grange, Kilmore which occurred on Wednesday, March 8.
Although in failing health since late last year his death came as a big shock to members and it leaves a big void in our association. When the association was established in Kilmore in January 2012, Noel became its first secretary for a three-year term, he later became chairperson again a three-year term and even last year he stepped into the breach to chair the association for 2022.
He was an excellent officer and organiser and was a principal member of the association in its fledgling years. He made a massive contribution to all aspects and activity in the association and his loss will be sorely felt in the years ahead. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Margaret and family members of their loss. May he rest in peace.
Two events, a county bowls league game and our Spring lunch were cancelled as a mark of respect.

Oulart Hill Walking Hub
At the recent A.G.M. of Oulart Hill Development Group it was decided that from now on the group will be known as Oulart Hill Walking Hub. The Group is responsible for the development and maintenance of Walks that go from Blackwater to the Unyoke and from there to Oulart Hill and around Oulart Village. There is also the possibility of new Walks being added.
All the officers were returned unopposed and three new members were welcomed onto the committee. We are always on the lookout for new members, with fresh ideas and skills, who are willing to volunteer their services to our group.
This year is the 225th Anniversary of the 1798 Rising and of The Battle of Oulart Hill that was fought and won on Whit Sunday, two hundred and twenty-five years ago.
Mass Times
Three Masses are celebrated in the parish each weekend. The Vigil Mass in The Ballagh is at 7pm and Oulart at 8pm. Sunday Mass in Oulart is at 11 am. On St. Patrick’s Day, 17th March, Mass in The Ballagh will be at 10 am and in Oulart at 11 am.
Special Collection
The Basket or Box Collection taken up on St. Patrick’s Day this year will be used for the Education and Development Fund for the Diocese of Ferns. As we go into the future, there will be a need to invest money in the training of lay people, priests and seminarians to lead and support the faith development in our parishes. Your generous contribution will be greatly appreciated.
Pastoral Area name
It has been decided that new Pastoral Area incorporating the parishes of Oulart/The Ballagh, Monageer/Boolavogue, Kilmuckridge/Monamolin, Ballygarrett and Blackwater will be known as Imeall na Screige. It was felt that since the grouping contains the historical areas of Oulart and Boolavogue, that a title with an historical dimension would be appropriate.
Oulart Hill, known in Irish as An Screig, is practically in the centre of this geographical area and the Irish word for edge, border, fringe or outskirts is imeall. Since all the parishes of the cluster border Oulart Hill it was agreed that Imeall na Screige would be an apt and neutral title for this grouping of parishes.
GAA Bingo
Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Bingo continues on Friday night, including St. Patrick’s night, in Bob’s Bar, Marty’s, Pierce Redmond’s, Raheenduff, The Sawdust and Oulart Hill Bar, beginning at 8.30pm.
