Bridgetown Information and IT Centre

The office in the AOH Hall is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is also open to the public, as is the IT room. You are more than welcome to drop in and see our facilities and discuss the services we have available here for the community. Hope you all have a good week and keep smiling.

Social dancing takes place every Monday night in the Saltees Coast Hotel in Kilmore Quay, from 9.30 p.m. till 11.30 p.m.’St Anne’s Novena Tomhaggard.

The Novena started on Monday, July 18 and will run until Tuesday, July 26. Mass each night at 7.30 in the grotto weather permitting. Patron on Sunday, July 24, Mass will be at 2 p.m. followed by our field day. Donations of bottles, cakes, etc and gifts for the wheel of fortune would be much appreciated. Donations can be left at the parish office Kilmore or in Tomhaggard Church.

Monster Charity Auction

We need your help in sourcing items for our Monster Charity Auction on August 14 in Bridgetown College Gym at 1 p.m.

We are asking you to have a look around your home and donate items of a saleable quality that we can sell to raise funds for the parish; jewellery, art, furniture, etc. If you can help just contact any of the Parish Committee or the parish office – we would be delighted with your support. If you wish to have an item sold on the day.

We can also arrange to sell your item with a reserve of your choice attached. Discount commission fees for the charity auction. Usual terms and conditions apply as with any auction. We are also looking for volunteers to help on August 14 and a few days before. If you have some time to spare and can offer your help, please con tact the Parish office at 053 9135181. Every hour helps, and we would be delighted if you could help us to raise funds for our parish.

RNLI Kilmore Quay Lifeboat Day

Our annual open day fundraiser will take place Sunday, July 31, from 1 p.m. Take a tour of the Lifeboat, meet the crew and Stormy Sam, enjoy the stalls, refreshments and entertainment at the marina and Lifeboat house. Raffle draw to take place at 6 p.m. Tickets on sale locally. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Community Lotto

Community lotto draw results for July 12 1, 8, 12, 26. There were no match-three winners. Jackpot stands at €3,800.

The sympathy of the community is extended to Tommy Davitt and family on the death of his mother Kathy Davitt (neé Dwyer), Crory, Ferns on Thursday, July 14. The late Mrs Davitt, who was pre-deceased by her husband Tommy and baby daughter Therese is deeply mourned and will be sadly missed by sons Tommy, John, Noel and Paul, by her brother John-Joe, grand-children, great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends. Funeral Mass took place in Ferns Church on Sunday after which Kathy was laid to rest in the local cemetery. Solas na bhFlaitheas dá hanam dílis.

Little Warriors

Oulart-The Ballagh Coiste na nÓg extend a sincere thank you to everyone who supported the ‘Fundraiser for Fiadh’ that they organised last Saturday morning. By bringing together the Little Warriors and their parents/guardians for a fun-filled morning they demonstrated their support for Fiadh and her family and wish her all the best as she continues her treatment. Everyone looks forward to Fiadh’s return to the Little Warrior sessions in the future.

Return to Croke Park

Wexford senior hurlers, who won the all-Ireland Final in 1996, under captain Martin Storey, returned to Croke Park last Sunday, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their historic victory over Limerick. Our parish is proud of the exploits of our representative on the day, Martin Storey, Liam Dunne and Paul Finn.

Adult Results and Fixtures

Oulart-The Ballagh’s first team secured a one point victory over Buffers Alley in Bellefield, last Saturday while our second team defeated Craanford, in St Patrick’s Park, earlier that same day. The second team take on Horeswood in Taghmon this coming Friday, July 22, at 7.30 p.m., the first team play Blackwater in Bree on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the junior team will play Tara Rocks, in Oulart at midday on Sunday, July 24.

Active Retirement AGM

Ballaghkeen Active Retirement will hold their annual general meeting in Bob’s Bar, The Ballagh on Thursday, July 21, starting at 6.30 p.m. Current members, former members and intending members are all invited and encouraged to attend, to review the activities of the last year, to elect officers and to plan for the future.


The Ballagh Active Retirement Association members meet twice weekly for bowls, in the Ballagh Community Centre. The Tuesday and Thursday sessions last from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and new members are always welcome. Anyone not familiar with the simple game of bowls will be introduced to it by the regular players and encouraged to have a go.

The Retirement Association hold their monthly meetings in Bob’s Restaurant, The Ballagh where members can have a meal or a snack while the meeting is in session. For further information ring Mary Fortune at 087 7987766.

Oulart Active Retired

Oulart Active Retired meet in Oulart Community Centre on Tuesdays, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., when bowls are played. New members are always welcome to join the Active Retired. Just turn up on any Tuesday or ring Mary O’Grady for full details (087 9361325).

The Ballagh field day

Parishioners were delighted to see the return of the patron and field day after an absence of two years, due to Covid. A large crowd was present for the prayers in the cemetery and fortunately, the weather stayed pleasant for the field day that followed. Thank you to everyone who supported the field day and to all those who helped to make it a success. Particular thanks are due to those who baked and donated home produce as well as to those who sponsored food – Pettitt’s SuperValu, Wexford, Bob’s Shop, Bolands XL, John Sinnott Milk, Noel Ormonde, Dermot O’Hanlon, Value Centre Cash and Carry and Lar Corrigan, Oulart.

Hurling for Cancer Research

Following an enforced two-year break, due to Covid, ‘Hurling for Cancer Research’ will be held, at St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge on August 16, starting at 6 p.m. Since the establishment of this initiative in 2011 in excess of €1.5 million has been raised towards funding vital cancer research. As usual, the contest between the star-studded celebrity teams of horse-trainer, Jim Bolger and jockey Davy Russell will create great excitement and spectators will be able to rub shoulders with sport stars and celebrities from the field of media and entertainment. Tickets can be purchased online or donations may be made direct to Hurling for Cancer Research. Individual tickets are €10 and a Family Ticket for €15 will cover two adults and up to three children under 15 years.

As almost every family has been affected by cancer, this entertaining fundraiser should attract widespread support. Mark the date in your diary.

GAA News

Our adult hurlers were very unlucky to lose out to Ferns by the narrowest of margins last Saturday night. They have their final group game next Saturday, July 23, at home versus Marshalstown at 6 p.m. We would love to see a big support for this very important game.

Our under-nine’s had a great night last Wednesday working on their speed and agility with Kevin Cogley. They worked on proper technique, getting off the mark and agility. Big thanks to Kevin and we hope to have him back again.

OLI Community Coffee Shop

The Community Coffee Shop is now open every day from 11 p.m. to 5 p.m. Do come along to sample our beautiful home-baking. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Leo Carthy Weekend

We are delighted to announce the return of the annual Leo Carthy Weekend which will take place on July 30 and 31.

It will begin with an opening night Variety concert in Our Lady’s Island Community Hall from 8 p.m. on Saturday the 30th – MC on the Night South East Radio’s Alan Corcoran.

Featuring Danescastle Music Group, George Lawlor, William Troy, ‘Wexford’s got talent’ winner Sarah Deevy, Nick Kinsella, and Brendan Wickham and co. With comedy on the night from the Ballycogley players Admission €10 (free refreshments on the night)

Sunday, July 31 – Starts with our 6km Fun Run at midday All welcome to run or walk our scenic route. €10 registration from 11 a.m. (free refreshments afterwards)

This is followed by our Vintage Car and Tractor Run leaving at 1 p.m. from the village with registration from 11.30 (€20 entry fee and free refreshments afterwards) all funds raised going towards Wexford Women’s Refuge (Kit our the Refuge)

2 p.m. Live music begins on the open air stage with the legendary Theresa and the Stars. The music continues all afternoon through to 6 p.m. with numerous well know local artists.

There will be kids entertainment with Foot Darts, Basketball arcade, Face Painting, and our ever popular Sheep Race, etc.

Also on the day there will be stalls, and tea and refreshments.

Tacumhane Patron

On Sunday, July 31, following the 10 a.m. Mass, Fr Jim will bless the graves in Tacumshane Cemetery. On Monday, August 1, he will bless the graves in Churchtown cemetery at 7.30 p.m.
