The office is open 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. All are welcome to call in to see the array of services we provide, all office services, social welfare forms, assistance in completing the same and advice and help to suit your needs.

The library is open from 2 p.m. 4 p.m. You can sit and read or take a book home with you. The IT room is open 9 a.m. 4 p.m. with five computers and printers available for your personal needs.

Kilmore B-Friending

Kilmore B-Frienders are here to help you combat loneliness, isolation, feelings of depression or just a friendly ear to listen to your fears and worries.

It can be easier for people to chat to an individual outside their family circle. You do not have to be alone to feel loneliness etc. you can be from a large family and still feel down and need someone to talk to.

All the volunteers are Garda vetted and trained. It is a strictly confidential service. If you have any fears or worries please reach out for help and support, do not suffer alone.

Bereavements

Sincere sympathy to Martin Kehoe and family, Bridgetown and Rathangan on the sad passing of Bill recently. Sympathy also to the Scallan family, Kilmore Quay on the passing of Frank last week. May they both rest in peace.

Love is in the air

Congratulations to Steve Yarr and Cheryl Bates, who got engaged last week.

Also in the romantic mood was Simon Mythen, who popped the question to Louise Power at the weekend. Congratulations to both couples.

Community lotto

The winning numbers for Tuesday, May 10, were 3, 7, 11 and 23. There were five match-three winners. Jackpot stands at €7,000.

ICA Guild news

Kilmore Quay ICA guild held their AGM last week. The following committee was elected for the coming year: President Eileen Creevey; vice president Myriam Duggan; Secretary Glynis Rowlands; treasurer Monica Connick; PRO Josie Whelan.

The guild will meet for afternoon tea on June 1 in Saltee Coast Hotel. All members are welcome to attend

Bereavement

The sympathy of the community is extended to Seán Hallahan on the death of his sister Eithne O’Sullivan, Douglas, Cork, who passed to her eternal reward on May 12. She is mourned and will be sadly missed by her husband Derek, sons Adrian and David, daughter Suzanne, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters and extended family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

Hall of Fame award

Congratulations to Margaret Leacy on receiving the Gaelic Writers Association ‘Camogie Hall of Fame’ award in the Iveagh Garden Hotel, last week. It was a well – deserved accolade on account of her outstanding contribution to camogie as a player and coach.

Oulart Hill Development Group is most grateful to Oulart-The Ballagh GAA and camogie clubs for their thoughtfulness and generosity in presenting them with a cheque for €1,500, the proceeds of a Fun Walk/Run that they organised on April 24.

The cheque was presented in the house of stories, Lower Oulart, on May 10 by Patrick Fortune and Martin Dempsey, Chairmen of the camogie and GAA clubs respectively, in appreciation of the wonderful amenity that is Oulart Hill and its environs and its usefulness to members of the clubs as well as to the general public.

John Dempsey, chairman of Oulart Hill Development replied on behalf of the Development Group and thanked the clubs for their generous gesture. Also present were Bridget O’Toole, Mary Sutton, Eileen Dempsey and Breda Jacob (Joint treasurer). Cake sale/Coffee Morning

Oulart Community Centre committee that serves the needs of the local community so well is appealing to local people to help in their efforts to raise vital funds. During the last two years, on account of Covid lock-down, the community centre has been unable to generate any funds while at the same time, the expenses such as insurance, maintenance etc have still to be met.

The committee have organised a cake sale/Coffee Morning for Sunday, June 5, while, on the same day, a raffle will also take place, with tickets on sale in local businesses beforehand. Cash donations would also be most gratefully accepted, and boxes will be in local shops for voluntary contributions. And, of course, the best news of all is that the community centre is back open for business.

Golf classic

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Club have organised a golf classic on Friday, June 10, in Courtown Golf Club, from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. €160 for a team of four. To book your tee-time please contact Darran Moore at 086 6012000.

Oulart split-the-pot

Congratulations to Lauren Paris, who won €98 in the draw on May 9. Lauren is asked to contact the local primary school, Scoil Mochua, to claim her prize as there is no reply from the phone number on the entry envelope. The next draw will be held on May 16.

First Holy Communion

Seventeen children from Second Class in Scoil Mochua celebrated their First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 14, in St Patrick’s Church, Oulart. Congratulations to Jason, Tara, Chloe, Dearbhla, Robert, Páidí, Cian, Darren, Ava, James, Mia, Owen, Conor, Ajay, Archie, Cristian and Caitlin.

Well done and God’s blessing on them all and well done to their parents/guardians as well as to their teacher, Miss Noreen Lenihan and parish priest, Fr Browne, who helped prepare them for the reception of the Sacrament.

Tulach a’ tSolais

It is intended to hold an ‘Evening of Music’ at Tulach a’ tSolais on Oulart Hill on the evening of May 28 to celebrate the Battle of Oulart Hill, 1798 (though the actual date was May 27). Musicians, singers etc, both local and from further afield are invited to attend along with the general public for what promises to be an enjoyable evening of entertainment. The music gets under way at 7.30 p.m.

ICA Guild

Oulart Guild will hold their next meeting on Thursday, May 19, in Oulart Community Centre. New members are always welcome to attend. Congratulations to Breda Jacob, who was one of the prize-winners in the ‘ICAs Got Talent’ competition that was held in Camross last week.

Oulart Active Retired

Oulart Active Retired meet in Oulart Community Centre on Tuesdays, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., when bowls are played. New members are always welcome to join the Active Retired. Just turn up on any Tuesday or ring Mary O’Grady for full details (087 9361325).

The Ballagh NS

The Ballagh split-the-pot draw is held every Saturday. It costs only €2 to enter and the winner gets half the pot. A new addition to the draw is called ‘Upfront’ whereby you can pay €20 in advance which entitles you to entry in 11 draws for the price of 10.

Annual Patrons

After an absence of two years, the annual patron and blessing of graves will return to the parish and will be held in Oulart on the last Sunday in June and in the Ballagh on the first Sunday in July.

Oulart field day

Scoil Mochua, Oulart is delighted to announce the return of the field day on the afternoon of Sunday, June 26, immediately after the patron. They are looking for volunteers to help out on the day. So if you are the parent of a past or present pupil and would like to be involved please contact Marianne at 086 8147525.

OUR LADY’S ISLAND

Prayer for Peace

This Wednesday, 18th May there will be Mass in the parish church at 3p.m. and afterwards those attending will be invited to walk the Island and pray the Rosary for Peace. This will be weather dependant, and if unsuitable will be held in the Church.

GAA action

Our hurlers had a great win on Saturday last, away to Rapareess on a score-line of 1-19 to 1-13. Well done to all involved. Final League game at home to Glynn Barntown in two weeks
