Church News

Cemetery Sundays have returned this year at Glynn / Barntown Parish, Co. Wexford after being cancelled for the last two years because of Covid. A specially prepared prayer card will be distributed to all who attend the remembrance events this year.

The focus of the prayer card is twofold:

1. To invite parishioners to join together in prayerful solidarity by reciting daily the prayer on the card and making its hopes and aspirations a shared parish charter over the 12 months ahead.

2. To prompt parishioners to now return to the practice of weekly Sunday Mass where the invitation has not yet been acted upon, and to grow afresh the local faith community, through weekly encounter with Christ and with each other.

The prayer card will be distributed at entry points to cemeteries and graveyards on the days of Cemetery Sundays and it will be recited aloud by all present during the prayer services.

Thanks to Alice, James for their beautiful music at Sunday morning Mass on August 07th in Barntown Church. Thank you to Fr. John for the Mass and as always, many thanks to everyone involved in bringing the service live to our homes each Sunday.

A big thank you also to everyone involved in the preparations for the Patron in Barntown last Sunday. After prayers at the graveside, the Barntown Community Centre team of volunteers, organised a very much appreciated ‘get together’ in the Centre. It was such a lovely day and a perfect finish to our first Patron since 2019. Thank you so much to everyone involved.

The event will take place at the Homestead on Saturday 20th August between 10am and 2pm. Volunteers will be on hand to demonstrate the traditional methods used in the reconstruction of the building’s stone and clay mortar walls, as well as its lime rendered plaster.

The group will also outline plans to complete the building’s restoration and discuss the importance of the use of traditional construction techniques in the safeguarding of these abandoned vernacular buildings. Parking will be available at Pennylands Carpark, located approximately 700mtrs away from the Homestead. Access to the Homestead is by foot along the Walking Trail.

Last weekend our Intermediate Ladies team and our Junior team played on home ground. Our Intermediate Ladies took on Fenagh, Carlow. They started off good and strong and this continued throughout the game with some great catches from Cathy Kearns, Pamela Brennan and Michelle Malone along with some great outs from Nicola Byrne on 1st. Clever batting and running from Denise Kent, Cathy K and Michelle M getting a home run. It was a great match with our ladies winning 31-2. The score didn’t reflect the talent Fenagh have and they are a team to be watched in the future.

Our newly founded Junior team took on Emo of Laois. The girls played their socks off and displayed some truly fantastic fielding. Their dedication to training really showed here. Great catches from Liv Staunton, Ciara Roche, Clara McDonald, backstop Tyra Brennan Roche and Aoife Birney with a double out on 2nd. Great batting from Jasmine Busher, Tyra, Clara and Roisin Cloake allowed them to clock up the runs to finish with 16. The final score of 27-16 didn’t go our way, but the girls have learned so much and developed as a team. We, as a club are very proud of them. Thank you to all our supporters who were there on the sideline, making themselves heard–we really do appreciate you being with us.
