It’s difficult to fathom that it’s two-thirds of the way through September and we’re two months out from a football World Cup. The soccer showpiece kicks off in Qatar on November 20, and, like breaking wind in an elevator, it’s wrong on so many levels.

It stinks, and everybody knows it stinks, but once the competition kicks off viewers from the comfort of their armchairs thousands of miles away will get caught up in the euphoria of tournament football and the ugly undercurrent will temporarily be pushed to the back of easily swayed minds.
