TADHG FURLONG made a successful return to action after a long lay-off stretching back to December when Ireland made it four wins from four Six Nations outings at the expense of Scotland in Murrayfield on Sunday.

The front row powerhouse showed no signs of rustiness as he delivered his usual commanding performance in the course of a hard-earned 22-7 success.

Furlong gave his all for 64 minutes before being replaced by Tom O’Toole, and there was praise for his performance afterwards.

Some trademark carries were married with a massive appetite for hard work when Scotland had possession, and he showed his value to the team in a role that the injured Finlay Bealham had filled capably in his absence.
