Prize money boost for one night only as Santa arrives early

FOR ONE night only, owners and trainers at Enniscorthy greyhound track on Monday got a whopping €650 for the winner of all races as Santa came early for the eleven winners. A boost in prize money is always most welcome.

Some very good runs were recorded, and in race ten the Daniel Frayne-owned Out The Way was just that.

Out and away leading to the first corner, he was momentarily challenged by trap one runner Salah Be Slick off the second, but he showed the better pace to come away from his rival and run home powerfully to the line to score by five lengths.

The winner has been off for a while and his two races – one in September and the other in October – got him just right back in the groove for this convincing win in a fast 28.91 -0.20 slow.

Race seven saw the Nick and Ben Turner-trained Achilles, who has been running very consistently, put in a fine display when extracting himself from a close battle into the first bend to storm to the front off the second.

And although Hollylake tried to bridge the gap from the last bend home, there was still two lengths between them at the line in a time of 29.29 -0.20 slow. Achilles has won three of his last five starts and was runner-up in another.

The Marie Doyle-owned Roanna Sky was a very impressive winner of race one, especially as it was her first race back in ten months. She did well to hold the inside line into the first corner, holding off a much bigger opponent to turn in front and come away to score an easy five-length win in a good time of 28.92 -0.20 slow.

George Roche recorded yet another double, as his Foyle Tommy took full advantage of the drop in class in race three.

He made the bend in front and simply was far too good to score by four and a half lengths in a fast 28.93 -0.20 slow.

Race eleven saw the double completed when his Grancore Jetzer returned to his very best form when routing the field here to score by seven lengths in a fast 31.68 -0.20 slow over 575 yards.

And it could have been a treble on the night, only for in race nine Ballybreen Lily got first run with a fast break and was always in the way of his Lemon Jade.

She tracked cleverly to cut the runner-up off at every turn and ran on gamely to score by one and a half lengths in a good 29.05 -0.20 slow for owners John and Cody O’Connor, Enniscorthy.
