THE organisers of a recent food drive in Oylegate expressed delight at the success of the event and with the support it received from the general public.

The event was organised by Bright Beginnings creche, pre-school and after school in the village and speaking about the initiative, Camilla Gulliver, expressed gratitude to everyone who supported it.

Camilla said the event was organised to coincide with World Homeless Day and within Bright Beginnings the children did a programme based around gratitude and those less fortunate.

"We then decided to do a food appeal,” said Camilla.

"Loads of people brought in items to us and we thought then we would donate it to Wexford People Helping People because it’s a local organisation working in the community for those less fortunate,” she added.

Camilla said a significant aspect of what WPHP does is that the group doesn’t just focus on those who are homeless.

"It was a food appeal and we also got clothing but the group also organises a soup kitchen so it’s not just about those who are homeless but also those who are just a little less fortunate.” said Camilla.

She said everyone involved with the initiative was overwhelmed by the response from within the local community.

"It was a fantastic response and we are very grateful for that,” she said.
