A decade after it was first mooted, calls have again been made for New Ross to get its own skate park. Leading the charge is long-time skater Gary Scott Murphy who has set up a Facebook page, New Ross Skate Park Initiative, and has made t-shirts, posters and stickers to support the campaign. As someone who lives in New Ross, Gary is well-placed to suggest potential locations for the site and has a number of suggestions to hand.

I’ve been scouting around for possible locations, you could potentially put it in the park itself, or up beside Tesco – there’s a big building which I think was supposed to be a nightclub that’s now empty; there’s an under-used parking area by the library, and several locations across the river by the old Albatross factory,” he says. And with Wexford town soon to have its own skate park in Min Ryan Park, Gary says there’s no reason why New Ross shouldn’t follow suit.
