THE chairperson of the New Ross Municipal District has called on the Department of Transport to urgently release funds to deal with "collapsing” roads in the town centre.

Speaking at the January meeting of Wexford County Council, Cllr Michael Sheehan said: “We made a request to the Department of Transport for funding for seven streets in the downtown area of New Ross. These roads are now starting to completely collapse and there are roads in the town centre that are falling apart.

“Can we put a call into the Department to make this funding available to carry out these works urgently?”

Director of Services Eamonn Hore did not seem optimistic.

"In relation to New Ross, I’m afraid I’ve no info from the Department, good or bad. I don't know yet. I still feel we will get some funding made available, just not the full amount which we requested.”
