While it was described as “miraculous” that nobody was killed or seriously injured by the recent fire which ripped through a section of Wexford General Hospital, one of those who inspected the damage afterwards recounted a “miraculous” story to a meeting of Wexford County Council on Monday.
Operations Resource Manager with the National Ambulance Service and Independent Councillor Ger Carthy was speaking about the damage caused by the fire and developments at the hospital when he noted a minor miracle from the building.
"The hospital went on fire and it probably burned for an hour and a half,” he said. “Despite the fact that the roof went on fire above it and there was massive damage all around it, the church was largely unscathed.
"The bible remained open and undamaged on the altar and there was no smell of smoke inside. This is just one of the strange things that happened during the fire.”
