A man aged in his 50s was arrested and charged with criminal damage following a house fire in Duncormick in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man was said to be the only person at the scene when gardaí arrived at 4 a.m. and was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to the house, which was his own home. While the Fire Service battled to put out the blaze, the man was taken to Wexford Garda Station for questioning.

He was later charged with criminal damage and released before appearing before Wexford District Court on Monday. The case was subsequently adjourned and he is due back before the court again on July 19.
