Lidl are now part of the Park Run family and they will be out in JFK Arboretum park on Saturday, August 13 to help promote the initiative.
Going strong for seven years at the wonderful OPW-run arboretum, the Park Run regularly attracts more than 100 runners aged 10 and up to take on the challenging 5km run or walk every Saturday at 9.30 a.m.
One of the volunteers at the helm since the beginning is Catherine Ronan who, along with a core team of eight, has helped keep the run going.
Catherine said the numbers have been well down over the summer, apart from on one Saturday, adding that this has been the case at running events and park runs nationwide this year.
“People will start getting back into it more in September. There were some weeks when we had as little as 40, whereas when we started back it was closer to 100 or 120 most Saturdays.”
Hail, rain or shine, runners take to the winding pathways of the wonderful attraction.
Ms Ronan thanked all of the volunteers who have kept the event going, adding that some young runners from the United Striders are now doing the 5k.
