The John Curtis Memorial Tractor run and walk raised an astonishing €38,000 with €33,000 going to the Irish Cancer Society and €5,000 to Raheen Parish Graveyard.
The event was organised by John’s wife Pauline, The Boolaross Discussion Group and Raheen Parish Committee in memory of the late John Curtis who passed away on June 11, 2020, aged 48, from a rare aggressive form of cancer.
The fundraiser saw almost 300 vehicles and 400 walkers descend in Raheen on Friday, June 24 for this memorial event.
The vehicles travelled in convoy around the surrounding area of Raheen, while the walkers had a separate route. The huge attendance was a wonderful testament to the man John was and the fantastic family and friends he had far and wide.
A presentation night was held on Friday, September 23, in Foley’s of Newbawn. On the night John’s wife Pauline, their four children, Caoimhe, Conor, Niamh and Aoibhinn, sister Aine Curtis, representatives from Boolaross Discussion Group and Raheen Parish Committee made a presentation to the Irish Cancer Society for €33,000 and €5,000 to Raheen Parish Graveyard.
A sincere thank you is extended from Pauline, the Curtis Family, the Boolaross Discussion Group and Raheen Parochial Committee to the local businesses, sponsors, all who donated, the drivers, the walkers, the marshals and everyone who helped in any way to make this event the massive success it was.
"It is much appreciated by all the organisers and the money raised has gone to two very worthy causes,” said Pauline.
