Gorey Educate Together Secondary School will open its first special class in September and will accept applications for admission until Monday, April 17.
The new special class sanctioned by the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) in recent weeks will cater for young people with special educational needs. It will accommodate a maximum of six students.
Principal of the school Conor Berry said that they are delighted to be working towards opening the new special class.
“It is really positive news. We have a purpose-built ASD classroom as part of our new buildings so we have all of the facilities for the new special class,” he said. “A lot of parents in the community are very anxious about where their children with special educational needs will attend school come September. This news brings certainty to them that there is a special class opening here.”
A copy of the admission policy and application forms are available on the school’s website. If the class is oversubscribed, places will be allocated using a lottery system.
