North Wexford Historical Society will have a talk on Thursday, November 24 at 7 p.m. in Gorey Library on ‘The role of the Land Agent on the country estate of Coolattin’ by Kevin Lee.
The land agent was the interface between the landlord and local community. The Earl Fitzwilliam owned 90,000 acres across south Wicklow and north Wexford. The land agent played a role in the administration of the estate on behalf of the Earl. This is the story about the land agents and their role across the years. Also, an exhibition will be running in the Gorey Library called ‘Shoeboxes’ which will show the story of Coolattin Estate where over 6,000 Wicklow and Wexford folk were assisted to to emigrate to Canada and links in with our November lecture.
The NWSPCA will hold their annual pub quiz on November 24 in the Loch Garman Arms at 8 p.m. There will be plenty of prizes to be won, along with finger food and sandwiches and with some entertainment half way through.
Tickets cost €20 per table of four people. To participate, simply show up on the night. Come along and help raise money for this important animal charity.
Kilrush Askamore Ferns Macra na Feirme is a Macra group that covers mostly north Wexford from Ferns right around to Ballycanew. We are a voluntary organisation. We hold multiple events throughout each month, both in collaboration with other Macra groups and on our own. We are all the time on the lookout for new members. Askamore art exhibition
The fourth Askamore Art Exhibition will take place from Thursday 17 to Sunday, November 20 in the Main Hall in Askamore Community Centre, with the opening event on the evening of Wednesday November 16 at 7.30 p.m. We don’t charge an entrance fee but instead encourage a donation to the charity ‘Disabled Artists’. We have 24 artists taking part this year, some from the area, and others with links to people in the area.
My Open Library
The My Open Library in Gorey Library service offers extended opening hours by providing library access to My Open Library members from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, 365 days of the year.
Staffed hours continue on the normal schedule. You must be 16 or over to register for this service. Under 16s can access only with a parent or guardian. For more information and to register, contact or drop in to Gorey Library.
Gorey Active Retirement
Gorey Active Retirement has several events in the pipeline for the coming months. On December 14, there will be a trip to Waterford Winterval. People can enjoy a Viking Market with other interesting places open including a museum, Waterford Glass showroom. Possibility of Horse Drawn Carriage or Road Train on the day and lots of other interesting things to see. Price including Transport, Tea/Coffee €25. Gorey Active Retirement would like to welcome old and new members to participate and enjoy the events on offer. Weekly, we have indoor bowling, Go for Life (gentle exercise), cards, walks and tea, art classes. Other activities include Spring Break, Mystery Tours, trips to horse and dog races, theatres, cinemas and other places of interest. In this free talk in Gorey Library on November 17, Erin Redmond will highlight the common characteristics, both challenging ones that cause a real struggle in school, as well as the positive aspects that can contribute to a unique way of seeing the world.
She will also discuss the impact that ADHD can have on the whole family if not adequately supported, along with strategies to reduce stress and increase calm. Talk takes place from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. This is a free event.
Gorey Craft Fair
The Gorey Craft fair in the shopping centre has returned this year. Come along and support local crafters. Get a unique handmade gift for that special person in your life. We have a huge variety of handmade gifts. Candles, jewellery, wood crafts, stained glass art and so much more. The fairs take place on November 19 and 26 and December 3 and 10.
Organisers of two upcoming Christmas events in Riverchapel Community Complex are hoping to bring joy to members of the community struggling with the rising cost of living this festive season.
Founders of Riverchapel Community Free Cycle, Liz and Áine Byrne are currently planning for two community events. On December 3, the complex will play host to a free Christmas event for children and their families. Liz, Áine and other organisers hope to be able to offer a gift to each child on the day and are appealing for new toy donations.

The Gorey Art Collective has two free studio spaces suitable to artists of all interests and abilities The studio is available for a period of three months up to a year and would cost approx. €27/week which gives full open access to the space 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing the artists to work at a time that best suits them.
