Enniscorthy water supply ‘under pressure’ amid persistent outages

WHILE progress has been slow on a number of projects in the Enniscorthy area, questions are being raised around the town’s capacity to grow given a constant water scarcity that’s blighting the town.

In recent times, Map Alerter texts informing residents in parts of the town that the water is to be shut off have become a common occurrence and are beginning to cause some frustration. While it’s bad enough for those who currently live in Enniscorthy, given the big plans for the Enniscorthy Technology Park and regeneration in the town, it’s hard to see how the town can sufficiently grow given its limited water capacity.

This issue was raised by Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council Barbara Anne Murphy at last week’s council meeting and Director of Services Eamonn Hore conceded that it was an issue.

"Enniscorthy is under pressure for water supply,” he said. “I think our Oireachtas members are working behind the scenes to stress the importance of improving the situation there. There has been a works application by Irish Water to carry out work in the area and we’re pressing for a delivery time on it.”
