A MAN from Gorey charged with illegal possession of drugs had his case heard at the local district court.
Jamie Sutcliffe, 43 The Park, Clonattin Village, Gorey, was charged with possession of drugs and with illegal possession of drugs for sale of supply at his home address on February 7, 2020.
The defendant’s barrister told Judge John Cheatle that the matter was in for sentence that day.
Outlining the facts of the case, Sergeant Victor Isdell said that on the date mentioned gardai executed a search warrant at the defendant’s address.
They found seven closed bags of cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €290.
“The defendant said the drugs were his and he had them for the purpose of selling them,” said Sgt Isdell.
The barrister then said his client was a 20-year-old man and highlighted that a guilty plea had been entered.
“He was cooperative and the drugs were of a low value,” said the barrister.
“I would ask the court to be as lenient as possible,” he added.
Judge Cheatle put the matter back for one year, to September 21, 2022, and said if the defendant does not come to the adverse attention of the gardaí in the interim, he will likely apply the Probation Act.
