They found seven closed bags of cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €290.

“The defendant said the drugs were his and he had them for the purpose of selling them,” said Sgt Isdell.

The barrister then said his client was a 20-year-old man and highlighted that a guilty plea had been entered.

“He was cooperative and the drugs were of a low value,” said the barrister.

“I would ask the court to be as lenient as possible,” he added.

Judge Cheatle put the matter back for one year, to September 21, 2022, and said if the defendant does not come to the adverse attention of the gardaí in the interim, he will likely apply the Probation Act.
