A student nurse was disqualified from driving at a recent sitting of Gorey District Court after being convicted of a drink driving offence.

Nicola Kavanagh, 14 Valley Heights, Carnew, Wicklow, was charged with committing the offence at Ferns on February 28, this year.

When the case went before Judge Cheatle at Wednesday’s court sitting Sergeant Gary Raynor told the court a breath alcohol reading from the defendant gave a result of 72mg/100ml

“It’s a drink driving charge,” Sgt Raynor told the judge.

The defendant’s barrister then told the court his client is a student nurse who drives to her place of work.

“There is nothing I can do about the disqualification,” said the judge, before imposing the mandatory three-year ban.

“She may be able to look into having it restored after two years,” said the judge.

He also imposed a €250 fine.
