A district court judge said the injured party in a case that went before him recently at a sitting of Gorey District Court, was entitled to justice.
Judge John Cheatle made the remark in response to a comment from a barrister representing Michelle Troope, 23 Raithin Cuilinn, Gorey.
The defendant is charged in relation to an alleged assault that occurred at Toss Byrnes, Inch, Gorey, on May 29, 2021.
The barrister highlighted the amount of time that had elapsed since the alleged incident occurred and he said his client “just wants to get on with her life”.
However, in response Judge Cheatle said: “She is entitled to that but the injured party is also entitled to justice. I will put it back."
The judge adjourned the case to June 8, for mention, to fix a hearing date and he excused the defendant from attending on that date.
