An Enniscorthy woman who drove while unaccompanied was given a €100 fine at Gorey District Court.

Elizabeth Connors (43) of 17 Dromcaithe, Enniscorthy was stopped on the N11 Olyegate in May 2020 where she was found to be driving unaccompanied and without valid NCT.

Speaking in court, Connors explained that she could not renew the NCT due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, Garda Newman said that the NCT had been out of date since July of 2019.

Connors, who has 15 previous convictions, told Judge John Cheatle that she couldn’t read or write and suffered with anxiety. She said that, on the day in question, she was stressed about her daughter-in-law who had recently had a baby and so she drove down to see her, even though she shouldn’t have.

The court heard that Connors was not working and was receiving a disability allowance.

Judge John Cheatle fined her €100, giving her six months to pay.
