CLOTHES from Gorey’s Contra Clothing have made their debut on the big screen, having been used in filming for Amazon Prime’s latest series ‘Modern Love’.
Margaret Redmond of Contra Clothing said that it all happened behind the scenes last November, when she was approached by costume directors online during a time when non-essential retail was closed.
The clothes have since been worn by one of Margaret’s favourite actors, Minnie Driver, who starred in in ‘Good Will Hunting’ and ‘Circle of Friends’.
To Margaret’s recent surprise, the actor reached out to compliment the clothes’ describing them as “beautiful” and encouraging the shop to keep going.
“The comment from Minnie Driver came in late at night on Instagram because she’s on LA time and it was very nice. We all got a real buzz off it and Minnie is one cool lady who seems lovely.
“I had only started the website a week beforehand but when the people in charge of wardrobe saw our clothes, they said it was the right fit and the orders kept coming. They wanted jeans, boots, scarves and big sweaters, just casual clothes so that’s our kind of thing, so it was a real boost for us and we couldn’t have wished for a better start”.
Margaret added that after a difficult period for retail, this summer and the recent feature on Amazon Prime has been a big lift.
“Gorey has been really busy this summer since we opened back in May, but it is really difficult to make up for being closed for nearly a full season. Clothes come and go and like fresh groceries, they only have a certain shelf life.”
