BUNCLODY Vocational College hosted an end of year awards ceremony with a difference this year.

Due to the growing numbers in the school, the gym wasn’t big enough to accommodate all the students so there were a number of awards ceremonies throughout  one week culminating in the Sixth Year Graduation and Awards event.

There was an illustrious and varied list of awards presented, which reflected the enormous amount of work undertaken by students and staff during the year. They ranged from academic and class awards to JCSP, merit and enterprise awards while attendance and sports achievements were also recognised.

Another change this year saw the different awards were renamed to reflect the ethos of WWETB schools.

Accolades were awarded for: Excellence in Education, Care, Equality, Community and Respect.

A spokesperson for the school said that while there were numerous Excellence in Education awards there were also awards given out to those who showed a love of their subject. These were Spirit of Awards and there were also accolades for those who showed a great work ethic and those who contributed to the care, equality, respect and the school community [Aitheantas, Solas and Class Spirit].

“There was a year long initiative to encourage students to read more and a number of students received gold, silver, bronze and book worm awards,” said the spokesperson.

The school was also part of the Creative Schools programme this year and many students were received Creative Engagement Awards.

During the presentations Principal, Jay Murphy, reflected on the year and the enormous effort and dedication shown by pupils and staff, during what for everyone was an especially challenging year.

He thanked the Parent’s Council, Board of Management, Student’s Council, the staff and students of the school for all their hard work and support throughout the year.

Mr Murphy commended the leaving certificate and junior certificate classes of 2022 “for their diligence, hard work and resilience” in the face of many challenges over the last two years.
