THE future of boxing in Enniscorthy and County Wexford is in very safe hands if the success of underage and youth members of Enniscorthy Boxing Academy is anything to go by.

The academy enjoys a formidable reputation for the quality of training and coaching it provides it boxers and that reputation was enhanced in recent weeks with a number of the club's younger members securing provincial and national titles.

Mia Dixon (12) and Cian Comerford (16) are both earning a formidable reputations as stars of the future with both of them holding Leinster and all-Ireland titles.

Cian fights in the superheavyweight category and both boxers are part of a rising core group of club members who are being tipped for the very top of the sport.

Megan Dagg (13), is another Leinster and all-Ireland title holder, in the featherweight division and to secure her all-Ireland title she defeated the Connaught champ in the semi-final and faced off against the Munster champion in the final.

Another all-Ireland title holder is Dean Cox (14), who secured the 90kg category title on a 5-3 scoreline.

A spokesperson for the academy told the Enniscorthy Guardian: “Said everyone in the academy is very proud of the boxers and what they achieved.”

Queva Byrne (11), from Monageer, is another boxer whose star is on the rise. She is a Leinster title holder with the academy and went all the way to the recent all-Ireland finals before being narrowly defeated while another Leinster championship title holder with the academy is Charlie Dixon (11). He was unlucky to miss out on a shot at the all-Ireland title as he was sick at the time.

The club spokesperson said another star of the future is Tom Mongan (15) who competed in the all-Ireland final of the Youth 1 category while Blaise Kearney reached the semi-final stage of the Youth 1 category.

The club is always open to new members and the trainers are all qualified expert coaches who provide top quality coaching.
