A TOTAL OF €1,600 was raised by Ballygarrett Golf Society and their sponsors at their recent awards night in Pegs Bar, Ballygarrett for St Aidan’s Services.
Three of the main sponsors John Sweeney of First Glass Ltd, Mark Doyle of MDBC Contractors Ltd and Liam Cooper of Window World, decided to match the €400 donation from Ballygarrett Golf Society, which quadrupled the money donated on the night to €1,600.
Eimear Mannion, CEO of St. Aidan’s, expressed her appreciation for the golf society donation, which was presented by Ned O’Connor.
On the night she gave an informative speech about the work of St. Aidan’s and the range of supports it offers to persons with intellectual disabilities and the elderly in the Gorey area.
She highlighted how there are always funding challenges for the organisation, and that the Covid pandemic has severely affected the fundraising income since early 2020.
When the sponsors donations were announced, there were loud cheers and applause from everyone, and Eimear stepped back up to the microphone to convey her gratitude on behalf of the people supported by St. Aidan’s and their families.
“We are lucky that St. Aidan’s is so well supported by the people of Gorey area. Our staff are so committed to their work supporting people to live meaningful lives in their community, and I delighted to accept the donations on behalf of the entire organisation,” she said.
Dermot Hobbs of the Ballygarrett Golf Society encouraged everyone to think local, and to support St. Aidan’s in any way they can, while sponsor Mark Doyle agreed wholeheartedly.
“We were delighted to support this local charity which supports so many families in the Gorey area, including families from our own community in Ballygarrett”.
“When you hear about the range of work going on there, residential care homes, day services, respite breaks, pre-school and elderly day care, as well as making all the dinners for Meals-on-Wheels, and the huge number of local families relying on St. Aidan’s, it is important to give our support so they can continue their great work”..
