SOCIAL and affordable housing was discussed at length at the Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District monthly meeting.

Councillors heard that part 8 planning would be lodged this month at Wexford Street, Gorey as the council waits for a stage two pre planning meeting.

With regard to Gleann an Ghairdin, councillors were told the sale was closed and offers being sent out in coming weeks.

Cllr Fionntan O Suilleabhain said that there were a huge amount of people on the social housing support list, and he said that some of those people believe they’ve been on the list longer than the council says they are.

Councillors were told that applicants who have applied whose circumstances have changed, are advised to contact the Customer Service Unit or any Area Housing Officer for a ‘change of circumstances’ form.

The spokesperson added that over 100 forms hadn’t yet been returned and so a reminder would be sent to those who provided phone numbers asking them to notify the housing officer of any difficulty.

Cllr O Suilleabháin asked about a timeline on the submitting on affordable housing scheme and was told that application stages would begin early next year.

The council is hopeful for regulations in November and said it would be a priority to bring them before councillors.
Cllr O Suilleabháin said that he’d be anxious to get started Ramsfort and Creagh, as single fathers are in need of a place for themselves with a second bedroom for their children.
