TULLOGHER-ROSBERCON

Late Margaret Roche

The death occurred recently of Margaret Lourde Roche at the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home Ferrybank.

A native of Ballybeg House, Rosbercon, she resided in Burleigh Court, Ballsbridge, Dublin for a long number of years before her ill-health took her to the nursing home. She was a frequent visitor to Ballybeg and also to Mass in Rosbercon. A lovely person, she had reached the great age of 94 and she will be sadly miss4ed by all who knew her.

Her funeral took place after Mass in Ferrybank to her last resting place in the family plot beside the Church of the Assumption in Rosbercon. Deepest sympathy goes to her sister, Ann (Murphy), brother Anthony, sister-in-law, Margaret and the extended family in their sad loss. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

In the latest Tullogher/Rosbercon GAA Club Development Draw, Jason Murphy from Slievecorraig took the first prize, whilst second and third went to Robert & Elizabeth Forristal of Shanbogh and Patrick Doyle of Glenpipe respectively. Consolation prizes were won by John Murphy, Ballyreddy, Patrick Grennan, Ballycurran, Brigid Healy, Brownstown and Joe Walsh, Garranbehy. A Neighbours Child

The son of a Glenmore man was honoured at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Monday 2nd May. A life-size statue of the legendary Jimmy Murphy former player and coach with the “Red Devils was unveiled in his memory.

Jimmy’s father left Glenmore to work in the Welsh Mines and it was in Wales that Jimmy grew up and went on to represent Wales with great distinction at international level. Murphy, who coached the Busby Babes took over the reins at Manchester United following the 1958 Munich air disaster which claimed the lives of 28 people including 8 of Matt Busby’s best players.

Jimmy Murphy led out Manchester United at Wembley against Bolton just three months after that terrible tragedy which left Matt Busby fighting for his life. Together with Busby, Murphy helped re-build the United team from the horrors of Munich.

At the unveiling ceremony, present manager Eric Ten Hag, “It’s very good that the club gives so much honour to the main person in the history of Manchester United. He stood for many symbols, a symbol of youth, and youth development, he stood for resilience and determination, and they are the standards for Manchester United. This club was driven by Jimmy Murphy in the years following Munich”.

This man, Murphy, with his roots in Glenmore, will now be always remembered in Old Trafford with a statue in his honour there.
