NEW Ross Singers are singing the lovely Mass for St Cecilia, by the master of melodic music, Charles Gounod, on Saturday, April 1, at 7.30 p.m. in the Church of the Assumption in Rosbercon.
Gounod is most famous for his opera, Faust, but he also wrote 21 masses, three oratorios and a great many cantatas, motets and smaller scale religious pieces, as well as other operas. His music is full of great tunes. The choir will be supported by the Musici Ireland Orchestra, consisting of some of the best players in Ireland.
Musici Ireland was started by Wexford resident, Beth McNinch, who said: “As an experienced chamber musician, I had long been drawn to the work of groups such as The Nash Ensemble, and realised that there was an opportunity to develop such a group in Ireland. Wanting to explore this expansive repertoire, I was lucky to draw interest from many of the top musicians working here, and so Musici Ireland was born.
As well as having the rich sound of the orchestra, the choir are joined by three fine soloists. Jade Phoenix is the soprano, Eoin Foran the bass, and William Pearson the tenor.
Tickets are available from choir members and on the door.
