Racquetball
The largest crowd seen in the ball alley in Gusserane in decades gathered last Saturday night for the eagerly anticipated finals of the doubles tournament. Pairings were seeded in to three divisions and this ensured highly competitive games in the competition over the past few months.
The division three title went to James Redmond and Brian Creane who defeated Shane Cullen and Conor Cleary. The division two title was won by Paul Cooper and Olivia Hearne with Mick Barron and James Mullally taking the runners up spot. The top division was won by Niall Maher and James Wall who maintained their unbeaten record in the competition to see off Barry Murphy and Philip Molloy.
Attention now turns to the singles tournament with the seedings to be finalised this week.
Split The Pot
The winner of the St Leonards Soccer Club’s Split the Pot draw last Sunday evening was Michael Aspel who wins €360.
Cards
Gusserane Parish Council confirmed following their meeting recently that Progressive 45 Card Games will return to Gusserane Hall on Tuesday February 7th at 8pm. The card games were suspended in March 2020 with the onset of the pandemic. The committee were all set to resume them in October 2021 but further restrictions were then imposed causing the resumption to be delayed further.
So following a break of just short of three years the boxes of playing cards are being dusted down as I write and the recipe for currant bread for the half time refreshments has been resurrected. All are welcome to come along and enjoy the cards and if you don’t win a prize at the cards or in the raffle, at least there’ll be a slice of “spotted dog” for you.

Well done to the Gusserane club’s Aoife Cullen and Aisling Murphy on another great win in the Ladies’ Football National League when they overcame Clare.
