Inistioge has been named the Best Kept Village in Ireland in a major coup for the area.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys T.D., announced the news on Tuesday.
Enniskillen was named Ireland’s Best Kept Town, while Abbeyleix and Lisburn also won awards.
Having won the European Entente Florale competition and been ranked among the best villages nationally in many Tidy Towns competitions, this is the latest major accolade for the village.
Minister Humphreys congratulated the winners. “The All-island Best Kept Town Competition recognises the great pride people have in their own communities all across the island. Set up in 1995, this year we celebrate its 25th anniversary of cross border collaboration, partnership, and most importantly, friendship.”
