The Wexford Masters Openwater Seaswimming Club were delighted to once again do their bit for a great cause in the form of the Tracie Lawlor Trust for Cystic Fibrosis as they presented them with a cheque for €1,500.

The money was raised through the annual Tracie Lawlor Memorial Swim which took place at Curracloe last month.

"It was great to be back,” said Saskia Dodebier, Chairperson of the club. “We’re absolutely delighted to present the The Tracie Lawlor Trust with this cheque.”

The sea swimmers have been long time supporters of the Tracie Lawlor Trust.

In 2011, a group of club members travelled to America to take part in the Alcatraz Swim in San Francisco to raise funds for the cause. Following this, Pat Whitney, a group member, decided to organise an annual fundraising swim in Curracloe and donate a cup in memory of Tracie.

The swim has now become one of the most popular in Leinster and attracts swimmers from all parts of Ireland.

A total of 171 swimmers took part in this year’s race, which stretches over 1.8km. Tracie’s family were keen to thank Wexford Masters Seaswimming club, sponsors Greenacres, the volunteers and all the swimmers for making the swim such a great day and for their continued support. Pictures from the swim can be seen on the Gallery on www.tracielawlortrust.com.

The Tracie Lawlor Trust and the Wexford Master Swimming Club would also like to send their condolences to Colin and Noeline Wilson on their recent loss. Colin is a founder member of the club and both Colin and Noeline have played a major role in making Tracie’s Memorial swim such a success.
