The 59th Wexford Drama Festival takes to the Jerome Hynes stage in the National Opera House on Friday, March 24 for eight nights of entertaining amateur theatre, after a reduced festival last year and none at all in 2021.
As one of the longest running festivals in the country, the festival has entertained Wexford audiences for six decades and the organisers are delighted to be fully back in action with a selection of plays which include a classic John B Keane comedy, a dark Martin McDonagh drama and some new plays to the circuit.
“There’s huge excitement about being back with a full line-up and we are delighted to report that tickets are selling fast”, said festival chairperson Rachel Hickey. “We only have a handful of tickets left for some of the performances and Patrons tickets were snapped up very quickly this year”.
Rachel thanked the main sponsors, the Riverbank House Hotel and Simon Lambert & Sons who are on board again this year. “The festival is run completely on the effort of volunteers so we really rely on the support of local businesses.
“Thanks to AIB bank, NP Liquid Glass Systems Ltd and Wexford Reiki for sponsoring our performances throughout the week.”
She described the festival as “a great week of entertainment with comedy, drama, tragedy and touching moments of theatre to look forward to. We have several new plays and some old classics in the festival this year so there really is something for everyone.”
Nightly tickets cost €15 and are on sale through the National Opera House.
