TINTERN Abbey was the ideal setting for Gift Horse Theatre’s open-air production of ‘War and Peace’.

A  dynamic cast of eight entertained a large crowd as they tackled this nineteenth-century epic, guiding the audience through two wars, 100 characters, and 1,300 pages - all in the space of two and a half hours. Balls, gunfights, marriages, death and vodka: all the best, and worst, parts of Tolstoy’s story were retold – getting a modern update.

Featuring live music and dance, on an intimate scale with a maximum of 80 audience members, the production was a rare treat for the Wexford audience.

This is Gift Horse’s third open-air tour. Gift Horse’s debut production, ‘Tess’ was first performed in 2019. Last summer, Gift Horse presented an open-air tour of ‘Twelfth Night’ around Dublin, Meath, and Kildare.
