HAVING played what the organisers described as being among “the most talked about and memorable shows in the history of The Wexford Spiegeltent Festival”, Irish indie heroes The Academic are set to return to Wexford for an intimate album release show on Monday, February 13.

Although the lads have become accustomed to some huge stages, not least of all the main stage at Electric Picnic, they are eager to return to a much-loved Wexford audience in order to release their latest musical offering into the world with a smaller show at The Crown Live.

The Academic’s self-released debut album Tales from the Backseat saw them explode on the scene and they quickly became the “ones to watch” after it hit number one in the Irish charts. Tours across the UK, Europe and America followed and growth came to the four piece.

Their new album Sitting Pretty they say has a more “mature edge” to it. “We’re different people now but that’s natural,” bassist Stephen Murtagh says. “You grow out of things. We’re in our mid-20s and experiencing all the chaos that comes with that. No one really knows what they’re doing or where they’re going, but nobody is panicking because we’re all in it together.”
