Swimmers from across the southeast made a splash at Active Tribe Courtown recently when Special Olympics Club Gorey Area (SOCGA) hosted a swimming gala.

Over 50 swimmers from Kilkenny, Carlow, Wicklow and Wexford came together to take part in 30 swimming events, with the team relay races being the highlight of the day. Athletes who have core swimming skills but are not quite ready for lane swimming got involved in a swim skills event on the day.

After the gala, everyone joined together for the presentation of medals in the Loch Garman Arms.

SOCGA wish to thank Active Tribe and Michael and the staff at The Loch Garman Arms for the use of their venues. They also wish to thank Kevin and Frank Deering at the Bridge Bar for loaning chairs, Derek Webb for the medals and the many volunteers that helped out on the day, including some Transition year students from GCS and their own club volunteers who “work tirelessly” for their athletes.
