Grandparents’ Day took place on Scoil Mhuire Horeswood on Wednesday last, following a three-year absence from the school’s calendar of events due to Covid-19.
“Grandparents’ Day is part of the school’s celebration of Catholic Schools Week and is a really important event in the school year. Most importantly it’s an event that is enjoyed immensely by both the children and their visiting grandparents,” said principal Brian Flood.
Children from 2nd and 3rd class designed and delivered invitations to their grandparents to attend this year’s Grandparents’ Day. The children treated all those who visited to the school on Monday to a variety of music and song both in English and as Gaeilge.
Among those gathered were four generations of the one family: Madeline Mythen Nolan, Therese Mythen from Campile, Statia Fuhrmann from Horeswood and Amy Mythen from Campile.
"The children were thrilled to have the opportunity to mingle and meet their grandparents and to welcome them to their school. Like all good events, the day was finished off with a cup of tea and some lovely home baking generously supplied by some very generous parents and grandparents.
While the visiting grandparents enjoyed a cup of tea and a chat all children were treated to a party afterwards."
