After months of sussing out steps and perfecting pirouettes, dancers from Castletown took to the stage for the Castletown Liam Mellows GAA Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser.
A huge crowd came along to show their support for both the club and the couples, who swept everyone off their feet with their fancy footwork. PRO of the club, Marcella O'Shaughnessy said that the event was a huge success.
“It was a real community night. We had a huge turnout and everyone seemed very happy with it. The dancing was fantastic!” she said.
James Flood, Sally Stephens and PJ Sheehy served as judges at the event, making the tricky decision on who went ahead to the grand final in the Amber Springs on March 11. This event saw the Castletown finalists go head-to-head against finalists from the Kilanerin Tara Rocks GAA Club Strictly event.
Seven Castletown couples went through to the final. They were Sam Cody and Ava Pierce; Niall Hempenstall and Priya Daly O’Toole; Jack Kavanagh and Sinead Cullen; Wes O’Neill and Sandra Nugent; Collie O’Doherty and Clodagh Kealy; Orla Brooks and Joe Sullivan and Shane Halpin and Roisin Kinsella.
Club Chairman Jack Kavanagh thanked everyone who came along to the event and noted how such a successful fundraiser will help to support ongoing development in the club.
