TWO lifelong friends who recently celebrated their respective 70th birthdays at a joint event in Jordan’s Pub, Ballindaggin, were delighted to raise money for Wexford Hospice Homecare.
Andy O'Neill and Johnny Foley became friends while marking each other in an U12 Rackard League hurling match almost 60 years ago.
Johnny, from Knockduff, Ballindaggin, told the Enniscorthy Guardian that he and Andy first met when he was playing corner back for Marshalstown GAA club and Andy was corner forward, for Duffry Rovers.
“We were both 12 when we met in the Rackard League,” said Johnny.
Andy scored two points that day and the two youngsters hit it to become lifelong friends from then on.
The joint party in Jordan’s was a great night out and Johnny expressed delight in the fact it raised €620 for the hospice.
There was music on the night and everyone in attendance had a great time. On behalf of both men, Johnny expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who supported the party and attended.
He said their support was very much appreciated and they also thanked everyone who helped make the party enjoyable for them both.
